Discussion:
TweakUI won't install

Problem #1

I downloaded Tweak for XP but when I try to install I get the following,
"Entry point not found. The procedure entry point Getdlldirectoryw could not
be located in the dynamic link Library kernel32.dll" Anyone have a clue as
to my problem?

Problem #2.

If I am logged on as Administrator I can send & receive emails and log on to
the newsgroups. If I log on under my own name, I can't do these things. This
install of XP was done on top of my Win98 install. Logged on as
Administrator none of the emails sent & received in Win98 are present.
Logged on under my name, I can see all of them, but I just can't send or
receive. How in the world can I resolve this short of reverting back to
Win98?

Thanks

Did you download the right version for your flavor of Windows? Check the
system requirements for the version that you have to be sure it's a match.

I downloaded it from Microsoft's web site & it said it was for XP.

You need to install either SP1 or SP2 (preferred) before installing TweakUI.

You need SP1 or SP2 for XP installed first. Then try installing TweakUI
again.

But did you get the RIGHT Windows XP version of TweakUI? There is an
Itanium version that is only for 64-bit versions of Windows. You
probably do *not* want THAT one.

For #2 it seems that you have an error in configuration of your e-mail
client under your own name log-in; why you see the old e-mails under your
own name and not under Admin is because there are two "mailboxes"
created--one for each log-in-- and the one that inherited the old e-mails
was your own name account (log-in). What are you using, Outlook, Outlook
Express, something else? I imagine that you have quadruple-checked the
settings for your e-mail account already, but in your place I would either
check them one last time without ever saying "I know that this is right so
I'm jumping it" or recreate the account settings from scratch. If OE or
Outlook 2000 or prior, you can export the account info to an *.iaf file that
you can save in a neutral folder like C:\Temp, log in with your own name and
import it.

Thanks Ramesh, that fixed the download problem. For some strange reason,
yesterday when I was reading the answers to my question in this newsgroup I
picked up 3 viruses & my home page was changed to a gamling casino site. I
didn't receive any mail & this newsgroup was the only place I visited. I'm
running AVG & Zone Alarm. I had to uninstall SP2 as it trashed my IE6.
(couldn't send or receive email) Is there a way to install MS firewall
without all the SP2 stuff?

Wrong version of Tweak UI.

(if you have installed XP SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

And be careful *not* to download the version for Itanium processors
(unless you should have one)

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP
