I just installed Windows XP into my old computer -- and
the drivers do not seem to work with my sound card.
Looking under the Control Panel/Audio Devices/Hardware
tab shows something called "Legacy Audio Drivers," and
troubleshooting says it's working OK. But the Volume tab
shows no audio device installed, and volume and speaker
settings are dimmed.
My sound card is ASOUND EXPRESS PCI card (chip ALS4000).
The CD that came with the card did not include driver for
Windows XP, just older versions. I was able to find a
driver on the internet and download it -- consists of a
set of .sys and .dll files but no setup program. Also
the CD that came with the card does not have a setup
program.
I tried the plug and play process from Windows 98 --
turned the computer off, removed the card, and restarted,
then turned the computer off, reinstalled the card, and
restarted again. It did not detect new hardware.
So how do I find an install program for the sound card
drivers?
