Is there a quick way to count the number of files in a folder?

Forgive me if this is common knowlege.
I know XP allows for a file count(status) in Search but is there a
quicker way to count the number of files in a folder. I really miss
Win98's ability to show a file count at the bottom of the screen when
I "select all".

Inside the folder you want the count in, just do a select all from the Edit
button. It will show you the total selected.

That's what we are here for.
XP shows the total number of files too.
From Windows Explorer, click the View menu
Click Status Bar if there is not a check next to it.

Now select a group of files, or select all.
The total number appears at the bottom left.
(i.e. # objects selected)

Thanks Austin and everybody for the help. I had to select "status"
like you said and it works. Is there a 3rd party utility that will
automatically show a file count in the bottom of the screen that will
count the files without the extra clicks? I just really liked that
feature in Win98.

Not sure what th eproblem is .. when you turn on the Status bar, it
stays on. There are no extra clicks required once it's there.
Of course you still have to point to the folder you wish to see the
count for. What "clicks" in this process do you find as "extra"?
